Constellations
by Anonymous
If you let the world fade away,
And never move your eyes astray.
You can focus on a single star,
Your eyes become captured by it no matter how far.
Although, you must always keep in mind
No matter how many distinctions you may find.
One star can create a mistranslation,
Because the beauty is really in the constellation.

if I have problems
I probably am the one who caused them
always trying to do right
but at night
a demon comes out
and runs about
I’m not me
that’s not who I wanna be
please let me
go free
from my mistakes
ill do or try whatever it may take
to feel okay again
no I'm not trying to bargain
my soul
or make fake lies
I hope the lord knows that I try
but I keep denying myself
the upper hand
and then I land
in the same spot
not even trying to be on top
I've got to stop
press rewind and reverse
its a curse
but at first
it was a blessing
now I'm stuck regressing
so I'm just trying to slow down
make a life long turn around
build myself back up from the cold hard ground

A Real Man
By Mary Desmond
It was a sunny, sweaty, humid summer day. I was running around my yard, catching butterflies and taking part in other cliché summer activities. The sun was beaming and I was ready for an adventure.
Being the rambunctious six-year-old I was, I meandered over to the hose, coiled sloppily next to the rusty red spicket. I loved playing under the hose in the summertime; it was one of my favorite things to do. My hands shook with excitement as I reached for the handle to pull it up and unleash the chilly and fresh rush of water. Just before my hand touched the spicket, I pulled it away and let out a spine-tingling screech.
Right there, on the top of the handle, was a huge, slick, daunting Black Widow. I had just read a whopping eight-page book from the Riverheads Elementary Library about poisonous spiders. That book introduced me to my first pathological fear – lethal spiders.
To be quite honest, I sobbed until my father came rushing to my side. Having heard my blood-curdling scream, he was extremely worried that something terrible had happened. When he arrived at the scene, the horrifying scene, I immediately jumped into his arms and cried into his shoulder. He asked me what was wrong and I said,
“Dad! There’s a Black Widow right there! She’s gonna eat me! Don’t touch it!”
He glanced at the spicket handle, picked up the spider and crushed it in his hand.
From that moment on, I knew my father was a real man.

Song

Darkness is all around me
I just can’t find the light
Do you think she can?
Or is this all an endless flight
My life feels empty
I’m broken and torn
Is there more
To this joke called a life.
My heart aches for love
I feel so alone
Does anybody care,
That all I feel is pain.
I’m scared all the time
That people will walk away,
And leave me to die
With no path to take.
